Hello everyone, this is not a typical diary but I was curious as to what kind of response it would get here.
My professor is teaching a class on political parties and electoral behavior. He has asked us to interview people using the questions you see below.
I have performed the interviews but I am really curious to see what kind of responses KOS participants will give.
If any of you feel inclined I would like you to cut and paste the questions and answer them yourself, the length of the response is not an issue so keep it as short as you like. If you do not feel like answering every individual question feel free to paraphrase everything.
I will pass the results along to my professor.
- Do you identify w/the Rep or Dem party?
a) How long have you belonged to this party?
b) Do issues, candidate, or party come 1st? (Put them in order.)
c) Do you vote according to party on both local and national level? (Who did you vote for last pres. Election, last local election?)
d) How many times in presidential elections have you voted outside your party? How many times in local elections have you voted outside your party?
Do you vote outside your party more now then when you were younger?
- Why do you identify with this party?
a) What do you like or dislike about the Rep/Dem party? Do you believe your party to be conservative or liberal?What do you like or dislike about your candidate (i.e., Bush, Gore etc.--local level Lautenberg, Forrester, Chris Smith)
b) Do you relate issues w/candidate? Is the person more important or issues?
c) Do you feel your vote will influence your local government (or nat’l govt)?
d) Were your parents of the same party?
e) Is your husband/wife (if you know) of the same party? (Is husband/wife in politics?)
- Last Presidential election did you vote your party or for the person?
- What do you associate w/your party (ideology of party)?
- What is your association w/this party?
How involved are you in the party activities?
- Do you consider yourself informed on issues or do you strictly vote for the party?
a) Do the media influence your choice?
b) How attentive are you to campaigns? (Do you follow campaigns in papers, TV, radio, etc?)
c) Do you contribute to political parties? (Limited amt., greater amt., very heavily)
- Do you trust your party to pick out a candidate who you could vote for?
- Does religion, ethnicity, age, play a part in your choice of party?
