I am a Texan

I was born in San Antonio, Texas. I have also lived in Austin and Nacogdoches. I lived in Boston for 4 years and am currently on my third year in New Jersey. However, my 20+ years in Texas and it being the place of my birth cause me to consider myself a Texan.

Rick Perry is a loon. So are the conservatives that support his comments and the surprising 1/3 of Texans who in a recent poll said that a state should have the right to leave the United States if it wishes. However, it should also be noted that Perry won the last state election with just over 1/3 of the vote.

I agree that more so than most states Texans can be a cocky lot. Many of them (mostly conservatives) have rarely if ever traveled outside its borders and therefore don't really know better, but many of you should.

To be frank, I am disgusted by many of the anti-Texan posts I have seen here recently. I wonder how many of you haters have ever spent any extended amount of time there. Many of you need to learn to think before you speak, because when you do not you sound like the Conservatives you despise.

I am a Texan and I am a registered Democrat. So is my brother, my mother and my father, all of which are Texas residents. So are dozens of my friends and so are millions of Texans.

Millions, yes Texas has more democrats in it than many of the "blue states" have people. Do you want to write off all those millions and lump them in with the loons because a few idiots display their own ignorance?

My father and my step-mother were district leaders for local Obama election offices in San Antonio. They and thousands of others went to the caucus for hours to vote in the Democratic primary.

Texas has 12 democratic house members, will you write them off too? How about areas like Austin or Houston? I went to college at Stephen F. Austin deep in east Texas, extreme conservative territory. The young democrats there and I stood up to our republican peers on every political debate, but I suppose their efforts count for nothing because hey, its Texas right?

Texas has a multitude of people in it that are just as patriotic/liberal/progressive/democratic as any of you here, in fact many of them ARE here. With each one of your ignorant comments you insult them and their efforts. Texas is not as far in the red column as you may think and if it can be carried over into the blue it makes republican presidential hopes almost impossible.

So please, stop doing the conservatives work for them by continuing to alienate Texas based on the comments of its governor. Take a note from our president and learn to know what you are talking about before you speak.
