After this mornings endorsement of Obama by Colin Powell I hope we can all wait for Michelle Bachmann to rear her head and accuse the Republican former General, National Security Adviser, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of State of harboring anti-American views similar to those of the man he just endorsed for president.
Perhaps Sarah Palin will say Powell does not care about the "pro-America" parts of the country, or that he looks down on "Joe Six-pack/the plumber."
Maybe some automated phone calls will go out claiming that Powell supports Obama who is linked to Ayers and is therefore a terrorist.
John McCain can come out and say that Powell is a socialist, after all he supports Obama who wants to "spread the wealth around".
The endorsement of Colin Powell is the support of a center-right republican, it is the support of an experienced military man. Some may view it as being totally racially motivated, but I believe it is much more complicated than that.
If you listened to Powell this morning you may realize that he is not supporting Obama because he does not like McCain. It seems he is supporting Obama because he does not like the direction the Republican party is moving in.
Powell specifically mentioned the "robocalls", and the use of Ayers as disturbing. He even questioned McCain's judgment in choosing Palin, who Powell does not feel is ready to be president and represents a further shift to the right in the Republican party, a sentiment issued by many centrist republicans in the last few weeks.
But Powell is a little bit different than the others. Powell is loved by many Republicans, even some racists who said they would never vote for an African American would vote for Colin Powell.
What I want to see now is the Republican attack machine accuse Powell of supporting a man they accuse of supporting terrorism, being a socialist, a baby killer, a Muslim Manchurian candidate and worse.
I wish they had the stones to do it.
